A room where your child will want to play and sleep
My daughter got her own room when she turned a year old. Of course, this doesn't mean that on her birthday she willingly packed up her toys in the living room and moved the crib from our bedroom to her room, but at least she discovered that there is still some space in the house where she can play and spend time.
Moving the toys out of the living room was the most important thing for me - I was simply fed up with parties where friends had to pave their way between plush toys and crayons and, at the end, they were still being pummeled by a puppy learner.
Space to play
The child plays mainly on the floor. It's important that the floor doesn't get cold, can be easily cleaned, and on top of that it's still pretty (that's important for mom ;).
