Children's room in Montessori style

Children's room in Montessori style

Even if you've eaten 16 kilos of walnuts throughout your pregnancy and only choose crunchy organic carrots for guilty pleasures, you're still wondering what else you can do to make your baby develop better. And this is where Maria Montessori and her principles for fostering toddler development come to the rescue. Today I wanted to focus on decorating a child's room according to Montessori principles. The main principle actually is one - the task of the parent is to provide the child with such an environment in which he can safely develop and discover his passions.

It all sounds great, just what passions can a week old newborn have? Of course, apart from waking up every two hours at night and crying mostly in public places? Fortunately, Montessori works not only for such toddlers - a room decorated for a one-week-old toddler will also work for a three-year-old.

Bed

The toddler's crib according to Montessori should be low to the floor (the lowest level of the mattress), so that the toddler can safely sleep in it and roll from side to side without fear of falling out. When he is older, he should be able to get in and out of the crib on his own - here, the option of pull-out rungs or an interchangeable side for the crib, such as in the Troll Sun Natur model, is welcomeal.

According to Montessori, a mattress on the floor alone is also a good idea. If you decide to do so, it is worth investing in a decent mattress, on which the child will not sweat and his spine will be able to rest (after a day of lying down, by the way), such as the Air Sleep mattress by Alvi.

Shelves

If we want to raise a little intelligent (or provide ourselves with a quarter of an hour of peace), the shelves in the child's room should be at the height of his hands. Books can be placed on the shelves - in such a way that their covers are visible. That way, we'll drink coffee and our child will enjoy the delights of his library. Shelves that will work well for storing books are clouds by Lamps&Co.

Baskets of toys can also be placed on the shelves so that the child can access them freely. This is where Play&Go cotton bags or Childhome felt bags will work well. Everything according to the principle that the child should be able to pull out any toy by himself safely and without the risk of something falling on his head.

Carpet

To make the room cozy, there should be a rug or blanket on the floor. Since I'm a fan of plain patterns even in children's rooms (i.e. "no" to Dog Patrol and Peppa Pig) my heart was stolen by the leafy patterns on Lorena Canals rugs. By the way, you can kill two birds with one stone, because according to Montessori, the room should also contain nature. I with nature do not have a special way and all the flowers I had at home have long since landed in botanical heaven, so the monstera on the carpet is, in my opinion, the perfect solution.
