Cocobelt — a solution to the problem of carrying a car seat with a small child

I remember when I took my first child to the hospital for a hearing test. My daughter was just under 4 months old at the time, weighed a little over 6 kilograms, and it was that wonderful time when her main activity was sleeping.

The hearing test was scheduled to take place at a hospital in Wrocław on Kamieńskiego Street. I drove up to the hospital, parked as close to the entrance as possible, and lifted my daughter out along with her car seat. The car seat I was using at the time weighed 3.5 kg. The hospital on Kamieńskiego Street was built on a layout modeled after Hogwarts, and before I reached the right office, I had to climb sixteen thousand steps, pass through twelve half-floors, and cross eight intersections. And all this while holding a car seat with a toddler in it. Of course, I could have taken the frame out of the car and attached the car seat to it, but I don’t know what I would have done then on the stairs or in the narrow hospital hallways—hospital elevators are either for patients or they don’t work.

The truth is, with a Prada bag slung over your elbow, you can stroll through hospitals, shopping malls, airports, and boulevards—but with a child in a car seat, things aren’t quite so simple. A child in a car seat is simply heavy—that's the first thing. Second, not only are they heavy, but they're also misshapen. The car seat rubs against my leg; after a while, my leg—which is in tights—is covered in bruises, and the tights are all stretched out—just one trip with the car seat, and I have to buy new tights and get a new leg.
