A high chair from infancy through adulthood. Where Does "Premium" Really Begin??
One design is intended to accommodate the body of an infant weighing several kilograms, guide the child through their first meals, school, and adolescence, and later become a full-size chair. The sheer scale of this undertaking best illustrates the essence of the premium segment.
This material is based on 3kiwi's 30 years of experience in the children's industry, our own product inspections, sales and service experience, and manufacturers' technical documentation..
Imagine buying a piece of furniture when your child is born. First, it picks up a body weighing just a few kilograms and lifts it to the height of the family dining table. A few months later, he creates a stable environment for his first attempts at eating on his own. It then adapts to preschoolers, elementary school students, and teenagers.
In the end, it becomes a full-size chair that comfortably seats an adult.
A person changes completely during this time. The legs grow, the torso lengthens, the center of gravity shifts, and the way a child sits, climbs onto a chair, and interacts with the table changes. The geometry of a single design must keep pace with this man.
From Day One to a Seat at the Table.
A chair that must understand people.
The designer of a classic chair works with a body that has relatively predictable proportions. A designer of an advanced children's system creates dynamic architecture for a person whose body will change in nearly every dimension over the course of a dozen or so years.
The footrest moves down as the legs grow. The seat depth is designed to accommodate increasingly longer thighs. The height relative to the table follows the torso. Throughout this entire process, the design maintains stability, proper support points, and intuitive adjustment.
From a few kilograms to an adult user.
Why has wood become the natural language of this category??
The answer begins with destiny itself. A premium high chair serves as a full-fledged piece of furniture in the home. It has stood by the table for years, functioning in tune with the natural rhythm of family life and remaining in direct contact with the user’s body every day.
Beech, oak, and high-quality beech plywood offer designers durability, precision in machining, and the ability to maintain slim cross-sections and a distinct grain pattern. In the Click & Fold, the frame is made of European beech, and the seat, footrest, and backrest are made of beech plywood. Tripp Trapp is made from European beech or oak.
Wood conveys durability, warmth, and elegance through light, touch, and the way it ages. To the eye, a chair like this is simply a piece of furniture. Whether at an oak table, a stone island, a natural wood floor, or in a Japandi interior, it becomes part of the same architectural whole.
Premium is also about time.
Longevity is changing the way we think about quality. The structural joints last for years, the wood’s surface withstands thousands of touches, the footrest aids in climbing onto the chair every day, and the adjustment system adapts to the user’s changing body.
Stokke created the language in this category. Cybex shows what it sounds like half a century later.
Scandinavian functionalism, simplicity of design, natural materials, and the belief that a single well-made object can be a part of a family’s life for decades.
Foldability, quick adjustment, refined mechanisms, the bouncer as part of the system, and a more expressive presence of the item in the interior.
Four questions instead of a dozen or so random parameters.
We evaluate the design’s ergonomics at each stage of growth, the scope of the complete system, the quality of materials and craftsmanship as seen during a hands-on inspection, and how the furniture functions in the home after the typical feeding stage has ended.
Price alone is not a drawback for us. In the premium segment, the more important question is: what exactly lies behind it and whether that meaning stays with the family for years to come?
CYBEX LEMO Platinum
LEMO Platinum functions as a piece of interior decor. The wooden frame, metallic details, and separate Platinum Bouncer create a design aesthetic more in line with a high-end furniture collection than with a classic baby set.
Here, the function takes on a much more expressive form. The Bouncer works independently on its own base; later, it is raised to table height, and subsequent configurations guide the child through their first meals until it reaches its final form as a high chair.
The manufacturer recommends this chair for users weighing up to approximately 99. years of age, with a maximum load of 120 kg. With the Platinum Bouncer, the system begins at birth.
We exclude LEMO Platinum from the numbering 1–3, because it represents a different aesthetic and price category than the other systems. We view them as a luxury interior design element, not a direct contender for “first place”.
LEMO Platinum offers a full range of features needed from the very first months: a standalone bouncer, a high chair for the dining table, a Baby Set with a tray, and a full-size chair for older children and adults. However, it operates on a much smaller scale and has a much more limited distribution than more popular systems. The price point is also significantly higher—it can be about twice as high as that of the other complete systems in this selection. It's part of its positioning as a luxury product for children.
STOKKE Tripp Trapp
In 1972, Peter Opsvik noticed a problem familiar to every parent of an older child: a standard dining chair is designed for an adult's body. The solution was a design in which the seat and footrest adjust their position along with the user.
Tripp Trapp defined the language of the entire category: adjustable geometry, wood as a structural material, and the child’s place at the shared table as the central idea of the project.
With more than half a century on the market, the Tripp Trapp has become a true icon of industrial design. The frame can support a load of up to 136 kg; it is available in European beech and oak, and the natural aging of the material enhances its furniture-like character.
Tripp Trapp remains true to its patented, distinctive design. The two side legs that rest on the floor create a distinctive silhouette and provide stability, but they pose a physical obstacle for cleaning robots—the device usually cannot pass freely under a chair.
The Newborn Set secures the infant at the table, but the seat itself does not attach to a separate frame to function as a rocker. Stokke is developing this feature as a separate product — Stokke Yoga, which combines rocking and a springy motion. Tripp Trapp, on the other hand, remains one of the most durable systems available and, upon registration, offers a 7-year extended manufacturer's warranty.
CYBEX Click & Fold
The modern home places new demands on furniture. The kitchen opens onto the living room; the space is in use all day long; a robot vacuum moves under the table; and parents expect seamless, one-handed operation.
Click & Fold It responds to this reality with a European beech wood frame, a full bouncer system, and the ability to fold the chair into a slim profile. Here, luxury also means the ability to reclaim space with a single motion.
Particular attention is drawn to the wood profiling, the edge finishing, the quality of the fit, and the way in which the hardware becomes a deliberate design detail. Cybex describes this philosophy as The Art of Craftsmanship. The manufacturer states that the complete system can be used for up to approximately 99. years of age, with a maximum load of 120 kg.
The name "Click & Fold" promises folding, and technically, that's exactly what we get. However, conversations with 3kiwi customers reveal that many parents use this feature less often than they expected before making the purchase—after a few weeks, the high chair becomes a permanent fixture at the table.. In that case, the hinges and hardware also serve as a very visually appealing design detail.
Compared to the Tripp Trapp, the color selection is significantly more limited. Cybex offers the standard manufacturer's warranty for the Click & Fold, without the corresponding 7-year extended warranty program that is characteristic of the Tripp Trapp.
STOKKE Steps
Steps represents a different premium brand. Here, natural materials are combined with durable technical components, a wide seat, and very quick adjustment.
This design aesthetic is particularly well-suited to settings where the chair sees heavy use and frequently changes users: large family homes, vacation apartments, restaurants, and premium hotels.
Materials are assigned tasks based on their properties. Natural elements add structural integrity and visual warmth, while technical surfaces provide ergonomics, hygiene, and ease of use.
Steps is the most classic and practical design in this selection—a natural entry point into the premium segment. The main stage of using a high chair begins when the child can sit up on their own, which is usually around 6. months old. This is a different philosophy than systems designed to build a single frame from birth through adulthood: here, the priorities are quick adjustability, durability, and heavy use.
What exactly are we buying??
We’re investing in longevity, the ability to adjust the geometry, proper body support as the child grows, and a material that will remain a central feature of the home for years to come.
We're buying a design that appears in family photos throughout our childhood. An object that, over the years, changes its role just as naturally as the person for whom it was designed.
Security changes along with the configuration.
The high chair stage, the bouncer, the Newborn Set, and the later version of the standalone chair each have different purposes and ranges of use. We follow the manufacturer's instructions for each configuration, taking into account the age and weight ranges and the safety system specified for that configuration..
For the classic function of a high chair, the European standard EN 14988 serves as the benchmark; multifunctional products may be subject to additional requirements specific to a given function.
In practice: We use the safety features as instructed, ensure that the child’s feet are securely supported, and periodically check the connections and adjustment mechanisms.
Four Different Interpretations of "Premium".
We still look at these products years later.
At the store, the customer first asks: "Which one will be good for my child?"?” Later, a second perspective appears—the same structure after several years of use.
That's when you can see how the joints hold up, how the surface ages, how often the family uses the adjustment mechanisms, whether parts and accessories remain available, and how the item itself fits into the home's future life.
It is precisely from this perspective that the 3kiwi Academy is being established. We're interested in products that you can see up close, touch, take apart, compare, and observe over the years.
This article combines the experience of the 3kiwi team, our own visual inspections and observations of products on display, and current documentation from manufacturers. Information regarding age ranges, load capacities, warranties, and materials applies to the product versions described by the manufacturers in 2026.
3kiwi's Transparency: We like quality items—often expensive ones—but what interests us most is when the high price is truly justified by the design, materials, ergonomics, and durability.. We’ve been in the children’s industry for 30 years; we’ve seen the premium segment in Poland grow practically from scratch, and we’ve served tens of thousands of families. We are an authorized partner of Stokke and Cybex and the largest Stokke retailer in Poland. We sell the products described in this article, so the links also lead to our product listings. This also gives us access to service experience, replacement parts, how materials age, and actual customer behavior after purchase.
We're not interested in a broad catalog just for the sake of having a wide selection. We prefer a few designs that we can justify based on materials, ergonomics, and lifespan..
