The Most Useful Accessories for a Walk with Your Child

The Most Useful Accessories for a Walk with Your Child

There are two types of walks with a child. The first is a walk to relax, get some fresh air, get out of the house, put on some makeup, and boost your little one's immune system.

The second one is a walk titled. "My child only sleeps when we're out for a walk," and its main purpose is to get the child to take a nap. Today I'll show you the most useful accessories for the first type of walk. The supplies you need for walk number two are basically the same, plus a few drops of Valium (or a whole bottle, if necessary).

First of all—the bag

Once we’ve got the essentials for a walk sorted out (mom, baby, and stroller—strollers are a whole other story, but more on that another time), we still need to find room for diapers, a changing mat, pacifiers, bottles, cloth diapers, a change of clothes, and all those things we had no idea even existed before we had a baby.

In my opinion, Stokke offers one of the best options for diaper bags—the Stokke Changing Bag 2-in-1. It gets a big thumbs-up from me because you can also wear the bag on your back as a backpack. This is convenient because if it turns out that your child has no intention of sitting or sleeping quietly in the stroller, but instead prefers to swing on the swing set or run around recklessly —you can unclip the bag from the stroller, sling it comfortably over your back, and then dash off to look for your little one in the park.

Plus, it has plenty of compartments and a zippered front pocket—every compartment and pocket is worth its weight in gold, because they let you pack your keys or phone separately, so when your phone rings, you don’t have to fish it out from among pacifiers and diapers.

Another option worth considering is the Duo Signature model from Skip Hop. The bag is quite large, has plenty of outside pockets, and you can choose from a wide variety of designs.

Second—a cup holder

Okay, maybe there are more important things than a cup holder, but when you're out for a walk, it's also good to think about yourself! If you're breastfeeding, you're probably drinking hectoliters of fluids a day—so why settle for bottled water on a walk when you can make yourself a cup of coffee in a thermos or order a smoothie along the way?? And even if you're not breastfeeding, you still have to drink, after all! Besides, we know very well that some days during maternity leave are made special by little pleasures like these—a warm cup of coffee or a smoothie made by someone else :).

You'll find cup holders from Stokke, Bugaboo, Cybex, and Mamas&Papas. It's important that the handle fits your stroller model, holds the container securely, and looks good ;).

Third, tableware for a child

If you've already started introducing solid foods into your child's diet and are planning a walk that will last longer than an hour, it's a good idea to bring a water bottle and a snack for your little one. When it comes to water bottles, I'm still a fan of Skip Hop—not just because of the colorful prints. These water bottles don't leak, are lightweight, aren't too wide, and your child can hold them on their own; plus, you can take them completely apart and wash each part thoroughly.

Another great option from Skip Hop for storing snacks is the spill-proof cup. As the name suggests, you can fill it to the brim with crackers, give it to your child, and close your eyes—and not a single cracker will end up outside the box :).

Fourth—the book

If you're lucky and your child has fallen asleep during the walk, I recommend reading a book—but not one about children! :)

What are your must-haves for a walk??
